Beat Procrastination With Elimination (Not Moderation)
This is part of my How to Stop Procrastinating series.
Hey, friends!
Momentum is the antidote to procrastination. But some distractions destroy our willpower to work on difficult tasks. Some distractions must be eliminated.
For example, I’m addicted to the mobile game Candy Crush. My little brain LOVES solving small puzzles and earning tiny rewards. I’ve lost untold hours (days?) on this stupid game. (Hours that I should’ve spent working, writing, reading, and playing board games with kids.)
The solution? Delete Candy Crush.
Modern society preaches, “There are no bad things—just use moderation!” Such nonsense. Candy Crush is bad for me because it overrides my willpower to do anything else. It guarantees procrastination.
Take action: Consider your favorite distractions. Maybe it’s doomscrolling Twitter, browsing Amazon, or binging Netflix. Do these need stricter limits, or should they be eliminated?
Remember, willpower is limited. Sometimes, moderation requires more effort than just saying No.
