How to Charge Your Self-Esteem Battery
Hey, friends!
Welcome to my online book How to Charge Your Self-Esteem Battery!
Time is short, so let's get to the point. Your self-esteem is like a cell phone battery. Sometimes it's completely charged; other times, it's completely drained. And your job is to charge it every day.
But how do you charge your self-esteem battery?
Put simply: Charge your self-esteem battery by choosing to be mindful, building healthy habits, and overcoming the resistance.
That's the whole thing! You can stop reading there, but if you have more time, let's unpack it with a concrete example.
Example: Bonnie
For years, Bonnie struggled with self-esteem. One root cause was getting four hours of sleep every night and feeling exhausted the next day (sleep affects self-esteem, imagine that!).
Choose to be mindful. Bonnie's first step was acknowledging how exhaustion hurt everything: her mood, relationships, and work performance. Then, she accepted that she must get more sleep if she wanted to feel good.
Build healthy habits. Bonnie needed to build new habits and break old ones. Specifically, her practice of bedtime doomscrolling. So she deleted the Twitter app. And to fill the hole in her evening, she started a gratitude journal. This made going to sleep by 10 pm much easier.
Overcome the resistance. Bonnie confronted her FOMO (fear of missing out), which hooked her on social media. Her inner voice still whispers, "What if something really, really important happens?" But now, she tells the voice: "My sleep — and feeling good! — matter more than the next drip of news."
