1-Minute Wisdom: Fix Your Life by Modeling Positive Behavior
This is part of my blog series Practical Self-Help for Introspective People.
Model someone who is already successful because success leaves clues.
— Tony Robbins
Hey, friends!
Here's today's idea: To create a new behavior or habit, find someone who's already done this and model their behaviors. Do what they do.
Two fast examples:
Example 1: If you want to be socially confident, model the behavior of a confident extrovert. How do they carry themselves? What ice breakers do they use? What phrases do they employ to put others at ease? How do they make others feel?
Example 2: If you want to arrive at work on time every day, model the behavior of a punctual person. When do they wake up? What's their bedtime? How do they handle unforeseen traffic jams?
Test drive their exact behaviors. See what works for you.
Note: some of these require you to talk to the person. But many can be sussed out just by observing them.
Last thought: Modeling behaviors is the fastest way to create lasting change. But "fastest" doesn't mean "fast," and too often, we give up too soon. Lasting change takes a long time. Usually months.
Don't give up when you don't see overnight success. Don't give up after a couple of weeks. Just keep at it.
